Starlight Club a Success!
The Arc's Starlight Club dance was held at the Hampton Inn - Brier Creek in Raleigh, NC on Friday, February 8, 2008, and it was definitely a success! Participation was excellent; many self-advocates and community members came out to share with us at the "re-opening" of the Starlight Club. In addition to those who came to dance and dine, we had several fantastic partners that helped to make this event so noteworthy. We are truly grateful to the volunteers who gave of their time to this event. Their enthusiasm and dedication really kept our spirits up throughout the night. We are indebted to the Hampton Inn - Brier Creek for their generous donation of the meeting space. The accommodations there were absolutely beautiful, and lent an elegance and beauty to the occasion. Triangle Catering's dishes were scrumptious, and beautifully presented (the cheesecake lollipops were such a treat!). We also had transportation by Carolina Livery for our self-advocates in wheelchairs.
A very special thank you goes out to the volunteers from Best Buy store #1051! We are so grateful for their enthusiasm, their commitment and their excitement about The Arc. They demonstrated a commitment to service that was truly an inspiration! Thanks to them we had a lovely 19" LCD HDTV as a raffle prize, and we also were able to offer pictures to the event goers; a printer was set up and as pictures were taken, they were printed on the spot and given to guests! What a treat! We look forward to working more with them in the future.

2008 Great Human Race
The Volunteer Center of Durham is gearing up for this year's Great Human Race, which is set for March 29, 2008. This is an annual event for us, and last year was our most successful year ever! Through volunteer's participation on "Team Lisa", we raised over $6,000. The Arc of Durham County keeps 85% of funds raised, and the rest benefits The Volunteer Center of Durham. Our goal this year is to surpass our previous record so that we might better served families in Durham. For details on how you can participate, please take a moment to view the letter. Arc Golf Tournament
The Arc of Durham County is proud to announce that our annual golf tournament has been renamed in honor of someone very dear to us. This year's 15th Annual Ronnie Thomas Invitational for The Arc of Durham County will be held April 28, 2008 at Treyburn Country Club, and has been named in honor of Mr. Ronnie Thomas of 1st Choice MBC. Mr. Thomas has been a staunch supporter of The Arc, as well as a presenting sponsor for this event. He is a successful businessman who gives back to his community trhough both donations and volunteer work. He is a member of the Virginia Independent Automobile dealer Association and a board member of the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce. He sponsors the Special Olympics and PCC Youth Entreprenuership Camp. He contributes to organizations from the Boy Scouts of America to local churches, and the Leukemia and Lymphonma Society. His motto is "Let our success support your success", and we hope you will join us during the Invitational to thank Mr. Thomas for his gracious support over the years.
